The song was based upon the same name title “Supervixens” that written, directed, and produced by Russ Meyer. It was a low budget film about a man who attracts multiple women all preceding their name with Super and all the trouble he gets into with them. Besides being the inspiration to Garbage’s version of Supervixen, Bruce Springsteen also played tribute to the film in his single :Pilgrim in the temple of love.”
Supervixen was released as a promotional B-side single, the A-Side had the song “Queer.”

Extra: First worked on as a rough demo in 1994, the song was released in 1996 and became Garbage’s biggest international hit. The song “Stupid Girl” helped propel the album into the Billboard Top 200 list. Later it was nominated for two Grammy awards, Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song. Also received nominations by the Danish Grammy Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, and the MTV Europe Music Awards.
Shirley Manson stated that the song was an “anthem for a girl who won't settle for less than what she wants.” Also adding later that “A lot of females still find it difficult to find their own voice in society. It's just that women have a different set of problems from men... make the most of your potential.”
